Wirefly has published a "Schmackdown" between the HTC Thunderbolt and the HTC EVO 4G. The Thunderbolt is essentially a souped-up version of the EVO.

But, if you're an EVO fan looking to switch to Verizon, now's the time.

HTC Thunderbolt to launch Feb. 14 -- (Best Buy leak)

According to several blogs, a Best Buy leak shows the launch date for the HTC Thunderbolt to be Feb. 14. The Thunderbolt is essentially the EVO running on Verizon's 4G-LTE network. In other words, it will be the fastest, baddest phone on the market with the Sprint EVO a close second.

That reign won't last long, however, as a slew of faster 4G phones are skedded to hit the market in the next few months.

The Verizon Wireless battle now is clearly a decision of the HTC Thunderbolt vs. the iPhone. Click that link to see how they stack up against each other.

Wirefly Debuts the HTC EVO Shift 4G

Wirefly has issued a lengthy video showcasing the new EVO Shift 4G. Available on YouTube in full 1080p HD, the video does a good job of going over the EVO Shift's hardware and software. It also shows the device next to the original EVO 4G and a Motorola DROID 2 for size comparisons, and displays the impressive results of a benchmark test.

The video doesn't offer much in the way of revelations considering the extensive leaks leading up to the Shift's announcement, however, but it never hurts to enjoy nearly 10 solid minutes of new phone porn.

eHow.com adds more Wirefly how-to content

From ehow.com:

Wirefly has been operating online since at least 2003, though it does not offer a complete history about its inception. Since 2007 the company has been privately owned by Simplexity L.L.C., whose corporate headquarters are in Reston, Virginia. The "technology and operations center" is in Largo, Maryland.

Wirefly is an "authorized agent" for most cellular phone carriers in the United States. One question asked constantly about Wirefly is how it can sell phones at rates lower than most other retailers. According to Wirefly's website, it is able to sell cheaply because it doesn't make money off the handset sales themselves. Instead, Wirefly helps cellular companies "keep customers" by locking them into contracts longer than those they might normally have opted for. For this customer retention, Wirefly is compensated by the cellular providers once the customer successfully reaches the end of the contract.

Wirefly Compares the New G2

Update: Oct. 15, 2010:

Wirefly has posted another comparison of two hot Android phones, the Samsung Vibrant and soon-to-launch G2.

Here are some of the highlights:

*User Interface: The Samsung Vibrant is running Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 user interface while the G2 is running a stock version of the Google Experience. TouchWiz differs from stock Android in a number of ways, including the homescreen widgets available, appearance and some Android enhancements characteristic of TouchWiz. Overall, however, the core functionality of Android remains the same on both devices, and the choice between the two interfaces is one of personal preference.
* Operating system: Although the Vibrant is expected to be upgradeable to Android 2.2 Froyo in the next number of months, the T-Mobile G2 is already running Android 2.2. With Android 2.2, the G2 offers support for Adobe Flash 10.1 along with mobile hotspot abilities and a potentially speedier user experience.
* Power: The Vibrant is equipped with an ultra-fast fast 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and 512MB of RAM. Although still a very snappy device, the G2 by HTC has only an 800 MHz processor, but has an equivalent 512MB of RAM. In day-to-day activities such as web browsing or checking email, the difference in power between the two devices won't be significantly noticeable, but may make a difference for power users.

How does the Motorola DROID 2 compare to the DROID X?

Several of our readers have asked us how the new Motorola DROID 2 compares to the recently released DROID X. Of course, the most obvious (and probably biggest) difference between the DROID 2 and DROID X is the difference in display size. The DROID X has a large 4.3 inch display, while the DROID 2 has a substantially smaller (but still nicely sized) 3.7 inch display.

Despite a number of differences beyond display size that certainly define each phone -- think QWERTY keyboard and camera -- the DROID 2 and DROID X are also pretty similar in a good number of ways. How similar? Well, check out this comprehensive DROID 2 vs. DROID X comparison chart.
